How to choose a padel racket as a beginner?

Pick a comfortable, maneuverable padel racket with a large sweet spot: round or forgiving teardrop shape, soft or medium foam, medium-low balance and a light-to-standard weight.

Look for:

  • Round or forgiving teardrop shape
  • Soft or medium foam
  • Medium-low balance
  • Comfortable weight, often around the lighter or standard range
  • A large sweet spot

Try to avoid rackets that are very stiff, very head-heavy, or built mainly for advanced attacking play. Those models can feel powerful, but they often make timing, control, and arm comfort harder while you are learning.

If you already have a strong tennis, squash, or other racket-sport background, you may be comfortable moving into an intermediate racket sooner. If padel is your first racket sport, start forgiving and upgrade later as your technique becomes more consistent.
